Christine and Walter welcome you to Cortijo de las Vacas Gordas web site.

"Vacas gordas" literally translates as "fat cows", which in Spanish colloquially means "good times" (when the cows are fat, times are good).  We believe this aptly describes our guests experiences.

Cortijo Vacas Gordas is an Andalucian guesthouse offering rest and recreation, an ideal setting for courses, retreats or just "being".  This lovingly restored farmhouse and olive mill in a private, tranquil and remote rural setting between the mountains and the sea, is an ideal place to do as little or as much as you like. All your needs and tastes will be catered for with complete flexibility, in a friendly environment. Do what you want, when you want (within reason). Read more here about available activities.

Cortijo Vacas Gordas

Cortijo Vacas Gordas sits in the foothills of the Sierra de Lujar which rises to 1800m (5905 ft). Surrounded by almond and olive groves, we are 7km (4.35 miles) from the Mediterranean coast, the last 2km (1.24 miles) of which leave the tarmac and the stress of modern life behind. Read more here about where we are located.

The Cortijo is within an area of unspoilt landscape. There is an abundance of herbs and flowers (magnificent in springtime), many birds including bee- eaters, hoopoes, golden orioles and eagles and wildlife including wild boar (at a safe distance!) and ibex, the Spanish mountain goat.
